There is a saying that says that love is like the Tour de France. It takes a lot of effort to reach the top of the pass.

Veteran Isle of Man sprinter Mark Cavendish sets record of Tour de France and now holds the absolute record for stage victories at the Tour de France with 35. Mark Cavendish won his bet on Wednesday at the Tour de France with a 35th success which marks the history of cycling.  He broke Eddy Merckx’s long-standing record and the historic scenario finally came true 

The 39-year-old veteran Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) won the final sprint during the fifth stage of the Grande Boucle, dropping his main rivals around 100 meters from the finish. He crossed the finish line in front of Jasper Philipsen, before jumping into the arms of his teammate. He is now the sole record holder for the number of victories on the Grande Boucle, ahead of a certain Eddy Merckx (34 victories).

Tadej Pogacar retained the yellow leader's jersey in the cumulative ranking, but this achievement was relegated to the background.

Cavendish matched Merckx's mark  of of 34 stage wins during the 2021 Tour de France, and came very close to accomplishing his feat on stage seven last year – narrowly edged out by Philipsen. He suffered a fall the next day and suffered a broken right collarbone.

After Mark Cavendish sets record of Tour de France, there was joy after the race for the Briton.

“I’m just tired (laughs), reacted the rider from Astana Qazaqstan after his victory at the microphone of France Télévisions. It’s my 15th Tour and just showing up at the start is very difficult. I'm lucky to be surrounded by great people, Alexandre Vinokourov, my wife, my friends... Everyone gave everything to see me win. I thank them. I will obviously try to do this again tomorrow. Throughout my career, I have shown the respect I have for this race. So I will try again and again. ".

As everybody can become the master of the world if controls his attitude towards what happens to him, “I always needed to win one more,” said the sprinter. Mark Cavendish sets record of Tour de France. He was joined by his children on the podium. “It takes a lot to get there every year. I’ve got incredible people around me.”

On the social network Instagram, the legendary Eddy Merckx congratulated his British successor: “Congratulations Mark for this historic performance,” commented Belgian runner . A good guy who broke my Tour record. » The five-time winner of the Grande Boucle, Eddy Merckx accompanied his message with a yellow heart.
