Learn about 2024 Met Gala theme"sleeping beauties"

The Met Gala, often referred to as “fashion’s biggest night,” is fast approaching. But what exactly is this event and why does it generate so much enthusiasm every year?

On the night of first Monday of May, i.e. May 6, the worlds of cinema, fashion, music, sports, politics and social media will come together to grace the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art at his annual Costume Institute benefit.

Upon entering the fashion museum, guests walk past what is, usually special for Met Gala, an incredibly huge floral arrangement in the lobby, with perhaps an orchestra playing nearby, and head to a cocktail. Or, they head to the exhibition this biggest night.

Cocktails take place around 6-8 p.m., followed by dinner, but the most famous – or those who plan to make the biggest entrance – sometimes come (fashionably) later.

Celebrities from around the world will gather for cocktails, dinner and exploring the latest exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

What does this year's fashion’s biggest night Met Gala theme mean?

This year's theme revolves around "sleeping beauties", but has little to do with fairy tales.

“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the title of the accompanying exhibition, refers to garments from the Costume Institute collection that have been “sleeping” and will now be on display, some too fragile to hang upright. afraid of disintegrating.

All eyes will be on Zendaya, the internet's favorite fashion biggest night icon and method dresser. This will be Zendaya's first Met Gala appearance since 2019, when she turned heads as sleeping beauties Cinderella, with a bright ballgown and her stylist Law Roach as her “fairy godmother.”

Curator Andrew Bolton selected 250 pieces spanning four centuries.

The fashion’s biggest night theme is accompanied by a dress code: this year, it is “Le Jardin du Temps”. The theme and dress code are often interpreted… loosely. So you may see an aurora on the carpet after all.
