Transparent materials, risky or not?

Not risky, I guess. This exhibition presents around forty textiles, including iconic pieces: the first topless blouse (1968) or the Nude Dress, a black muslin dress belted with ostrich feathers.

The Yves Saint Laurent Museum Paris presents, from February 9 to August 25, 2024, Yves Saint Laurent: Transparencies, the power of materials, second chapter of a story started last summer at the City of Lace and Fashion in Calais .

The exhibition is structured around 5 sections.

• introduction, exploring several pieces made of organza, Cigaline®, lace, tulle or even muslin with different effects.
• the woman's body gradually revealed thanks to the use of lace and tulle,
• the fluidity of movement generated by soft fabrics, such as muslin, which animate the body, cover it and reveal it,
• construction lines of a garment which allow the body to be structured, like the tracing patterns presented for the first time,
• silhouettes of brides reinvented with their tulle veil in unfathomable freedom.

Pop star Ciara attended the Vanity Fair Oscars party with her husband Russell Wilson, and she was wearing a gorgeous crosshatched gown by Dundas with a pair of Santoni high-heeled shoes. The dress was made of black sheer material and studded with jewels, hugging to every curve it didn't reveal.

The sheer look has been quite popular on the red carpet and fashion runways this year, and in fact quite a few people wore similar styles to the event.

A great admirer of Bob Mackie's creations, the singer asked the designer, through her stylist Bradley Kenneth, if she could wear a garment from his archives on the evening of the event. “She’s borrowed a few outfits from me in the past, including for her New Year’s Eve concert with Dolly Parton last year,” says Bob Mackie. “I love seeing her wear my creations, because she loves to perform and show off. You know she loves every minute of it.

The dress the star wore, with its floaty hem and midriff cutout, was from Bob Mackie's 2002 collection, titled To Broadway With Love. “It was a fashion collection inspired by Broadway musicals,” says the designer. “Miley's dress was an homage to the 'Big Spender' sequence from Sweet Charity. There were these three girls in sexy little fringed dresses.” Seeing Miley Cyrus' choreography, Bob Mackie knew the dress was perfect for her. “She’s there to entertain,” he explains. “And God knows a little sparkle goes a long way,” adds Joe McFate.
