US presidential election 2024: why Taylor Swift worries Donald Trump supporters

Donald Trump's entourage fears that singer Taylor Swift and her companion, at the height of their fame, will support Joe Biden. And they see with anguish the arrival of February 11, the date of the Super Bowl final, the biggest television event of the year across the Atlantic, where the couple has arranged to meet.

Taylor Swift delighted millions of Americans on Sunday, January 28, when she went down to the pitch at the Baltimore stadium to kiss her darling Travis Kelce. The bearded receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs had just propelled his team to the final of the NFL championship, the professional American football league.

On February 11, in Las Vegas, the Chiefs will play their sixth Super Bowl, the fourth since 2019, against the San Francisco 49ers. The global pop star — 29 billion streams on Spotify in 2023 — has promised to attend the sporting event of the year. To join her champion, the defending champion, she will skip her mega world tour and return home from Japan.

Assailed by conservative channel Fox News

All the spotlight will then be on the most glamorous couple of the moment. And this gives fear to those around Donald Trump. Since the start of the week, the former President's zealots, seeking revenge on Joe Biden in the November 5 presidential election, have been firing on all cylinders. Don't get involved in politics, Jeanine Pirro, one of the star hosts of Fox News, said on air on Monday. Sean Hannity, another top conservative and Trump confidant, suggested he think twice.

This is because in 2020, Swift had thrown her already considerable weight behind Joe Biden, born like her – but 47 years earlier – in Pennsylvania. Last September, registrations of new voters more than doubled after the singer with 279 million followers on Instagram launched a call to do so on the Vote.org platform. Kelce stood out during Covid by resolutely committing to vaccination.

Swift and Kelce accused of being agents on mission

Above all, Trump fears that the couple – who never say a word – will invest in the campaign, which is what Democratic strategists dream of. Because they can move voters: football and country music – from which the singer-songwriter comes straight – particularly resonate with the popular electorate, who have united behind the populist billionaire.

So much so that Jesse Waters, yet another Fox host never behind on a plot, insinuated that Swift and Kelce are government and Pfizer agents engaged in psychological warfare, and that their romance is a fabrication of the Democratic Party .

United States: Taylor Swift, an essential asset for the 2024 presidential election? (III)

(this is a follow up of a previous post)

And according to a survey published in early December by a Harvard institute, the number of young people surveyed “definitely” planning to vote for the next presidential election fell to 49%, compared to 57% in the fall of 2019.

"Mobilize"

The participation rate in general, and that of young people in particular, will be one of the keys to the next presidential election.

And for Matthew Harris, it is surely in this area that Taylor Swift could have the most impact.

“I don’t think people are like, ‘Oh! Taylor Swift supports Joe Biden, so I’m going to vote for him,’” he explains. The most important will be “his ability to mobilize people, to encourage them to register to vote”, because “these are people who are already predisposed to vote for Joe Biden”.

Especially since the "Swifties", the name given to the singer's fans, live mainly in residential suburbs, adds the political scientist, areas which "tip the American political balance".

Taylor Swift published a message on Instagram in September inviting her 272 million subscribers to use the Vote.org platform to register to vote.

Result? The organization recorded more than 35,000 new registrations that day, a jump of 23% compared to the same day a year earlier, and further proof of the singer's influence.

The superstar could also encourage mobilization through his positions, particularly on abortion.

When the Supreme Court annulled the constitutional guarantee of the right to abortion in 2022, the artist said she was "terrified" that women's right to control their own bodies would be taken away from them, a fight that is close to Kamala Harris, Joe Biden's vice-president.

But for the latter to gain the singer's support, perhaps the president would no longer have to confuse her with Britney Spears, as he did in November...

Can Taylor Swift Become the Master of the World? (II)

I asked this question in the previous post. I thought it was an interesting one

Well, knowing what the question is referring to, I would really like to answer in the negative way. I also have some reasons that I will include below:

First and foremost, I must say that symptomatic of the fallow pubescent meadows, the biggest of Taylor's cored Fane club is very young, 13–14 years old, suffice to say that they are not about to vote. We have plenty of time to die between now and then.

In addition, she has already tried to influence an election in Tennessee in 2018, on the basis of tomorrow we shave for free and for which her favorite candidate broke his neck.

At most and very important to me, taking a stand she will lose sales. This will happen because, undoubtedly, she will be booed and stoned in the media by a part of the American people, very likely.

The divisions are far too marked, unless we consider that she can influence the in-between, that part of the undecided or disappointed electorate in one camp or the other and particularly in its native state.

Especially since, proof of her modernity or her senility, Joe Biden confuses her with Britney Spears.

One after another, remaining skeptical, I cannot see Taylor as ae electoral weapon in Biden's favor.
