Question of rights at stake: Standoff between Taylor Swift and her former record company (I)

The tone is rising between Taylor Swift and her former record company, which she accuses of preventing her from singing her own songs with, at the center, the question of the rights to her recordings.

This is a new stage in the dispute between the princess of pop and the music industry mogul Scooter Braun.

Standoff between Taylor Swift and her former label, the question of rights at stake

In June, the businessman's company bought Taylor Swift's record label, Big Machine, which owns the recordings made by the singer for her first six albums.

Arriving at the end of her contract in November 2018, the 29-year-old artist joined Universal, with whom she released her seventh opus, Lover, and publicly explained that Big Machine had not allowed her to recover the rights to her records.

In a blog post Thursday, she accused Scooter Braun and Big Machine founder Scott Borchetta of warning her team that she wasn't even allowed to sing her old songs on television.

“This would amount to re-recording [s]her music before [she] has the right to do so, next year,” the two leaders would have explained, according to Taylor Swift.

In August, the one who began her career in country announced that she wanted to re-record her songs to regain control of her works, a project she confirmed again on Thursday.

According to Taylor Swift, these threats risk preventing her from singing a compilation of her greatest hits during the American Music Awards (AMA) ceremony on November 24.

They also deprive her, according to her, of using songs and old videos in a documentary on her life produced by Netflix.

Everything for the “masters”

The record company goes further and claims that the singer owes it, contractually, “millions of dollars”.

Still according to the group, discussions have been held in recent months between the two parties, and it was “optimistic about a possible resolution, until yesterday”, Thursday.

The managers accuse him of having “appealed to his fans in a calculated manner, which has significant consequences for the safety of [their] employees and their families”.

They nevertheless made a new call for dialogue, accusing him of having refused a direct exchange until now.

The issue of rights is not new in the recording industry.

Prince is probably the artist who most embodied this struggle of artists to have ownership of their “masters”, or master tapes, the original recordings.

Astrological Compatibility: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have found themselves at the center of dating rumors lately, from the Kansas City Chiefs player being spotted at the singer's Eras Tour on July 8 to Swift being seen cheering for Kelce at his game on Sept. 24.

A day after making headlines with their rumored romance, an insider told that it's still "super, super early days" of them getting to know each other but they are "having fun."

Swift is a Sagittarius Sun with a Cancer Moon, while Kelce is a Libra Sun with a Sagittarius Moon. "This means that they will share many key astrological placements, particularly with the outer planets," says Thomas — who's known for his cosmic guidance for celebrities, business executives and prominent influencers.

"Factoring in romance and intimacy, intellectual rapport and communication, career and financial support, friendship, domestic union and true long-term synergy," Swift and Kelce "a 9 out of 10" when it comes to "their overall compatibility."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's compatibility

Both Swift and Kelce possess Pluto in Scorpio, which "brings them great passion and a desire for transformation." He adds that they each possess a Capricorn stellium, which "aids them in breaking down and rebuilding core structures in their lives and in the world at large."

They both have Jupiter in Cancer, which "is one of the luckiest positions for this planet to be," and more "grants them a 'golden touch' to whatever they do, especially when they lead with their hearts. "

Lastly, both Swift and Kelce carry a North Node in Aquarius, meaning "they carry a great desire to break out of the box, connect to community, and pursue their aspirations, as well as work for the greater good."

Furthermore, both carry South Nodes in Leo. This means that they are each "naturally drawn to all things that Leo rules," citing "romance, passion, entertainment, the arts and sports" as examples.

Based on these placements, the overall assessment reveals that both Swift and Kelce "possess a karmic entanglement that makes them feel familiar to one another. They can easily be seen as an ideal couple for their generation, somewhat of a King and a Queen of an era."

The European Commission: Taylor Swift can help encourage young people to vote

The European Commission asked the singer to motivate young people to go to the polls.

We can no longer deny it: Taylor Swift is one of the most influential women of the moment. And the latter tries to use this wisely. On her social networks, the singer notably called on Americans to register to vote. Information which did not escape Margaritis Schinas, one of the vice-presidents of the European Commission. “The day after his message, 35,000 young Americans registered to vote,” he explained during a press conference.

Margaritis Schinas then wondered whether this technique could also work among young Europeans. "Now is the time for them to have their say at the ballot box, to assign praise or blame to European policies. So it is crucial, I think, that we have, as in 2019, a level high level of participation," he continued. “No one can mobilize young people better than young people. This is how it works.”

Taylor Swift, businesswoman who succeeds where others fail

And, when Margaritis Schinas speaks of "young people", he mentions in particular the case of Taylor Swift: "Taylor Swift will be in Europe in May. So I hope that she will do the same thing for young Europeans and that someone from his media team will follow this press conference and forward this request to him."

As our colleagues from Voix du Nord explain, Taylor Swift will be present in Paris on May 9... namely the date of Europe Day! Would this be the right opportunity for her to encourage young people to go to the polls? This remains to be confirmed...

United States: Taylor Swift, an essential asset for the 2024 presidential election? (III)

(this is a follow up of a previous post)

And according to a survey published in early December by a Harvard institute, the number of young people surveyed “definitely” planning to vote for the next presidential election fell to 49%, compared to 57% in the fall of 2019.

"Mobilize"

The participation rate in general, and that of young people in particular, will be one of the keys to the next presidential election.

And for Matthew Harris, it is surely in this area that Taylor Swift could have the most impact.

“I don’t think people are like, ‘Oh! Taylor Swift supports Joe Biden, so I’m going to vote for him,’” he explains. The most important will be “his ability to mobilize people, to encourage them to register to vote”, because “these are people who are already predisposed to vote for Joe Biden”.

Especially since the "Swifties", the name given to the singer's fans, live mainly in residential suburbs, adds the political scientist, areas which "tip the American political balance".

Taylor Swift published a message on Instagram in September inviting her 272 million subscribers to use the Vote.org platform to register to vote.

Result? The organization recorded more than 35,000 new registrations that day, a jump of 23% compared to the same day a year earlier, and further proof of the singer's influence.

The superstar could also encourage mobilization through his positions, particularly on abortion.

When the Supreme Court annulled the constitutional guarantee of the right to abortion in 2022, the artist said she was "terrified" that women's right to control their own bodies would be taken away from them, a fight that is close to Kamala Harris, Joe Biden's vice-president.

But for the latter to gain the singer's support, perhaps the president would no longer have to confuse her with Britney Spears, as he did in November...

The Taylor Swift effect in the United States: “She stimulated the American economy”

The effect of "Taylor Swift", mega pop star whose tour in the United States broke records, has stimulated the American economy in recent months, underlined Thursday the president of the New York Fed, John Williams.

“There is clearly a Taylor Swift effect on consumer spending because people spent on the concert, the hotel, all of that was a big phenomenon,” said the head of the New York branch of the American central bank, during an interview on Bloomberg TV.

With 146 dates in sold-out stadiums, Taylor Swift, on tour since March in the United States and Mexico, should reach a billion dollars in revenue. She will continue her concerts in Argentina, Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, until the end of next year

The month of May was even the strongest for hotel revenues in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) since the start of the pandemic, "largely thanks to an influx of visitors for Taylor Swift concerts in the city", reported a responsible for the sector cited in the Fed's Beige Book, a survey published in early July.

Overall, "demand is strong. We are seeing this rotation (of spending) from goods to services that we were talking about a year ago. People are traveling more, going to restaurants, going to shows," detailed John Williams.

In fact, it is now the prices of services that are driving inflation upwards, while the prices of goods are falling.

The Fed, working to slow inflation, has raised its rates 11 times since March 2022, in order to increase the cost of credit, and, thus, slow down consumption and investment. To ultimately ease the pressure on prices.

United States: Taylor Swift, an essential asset for the 2024 presidential election? (II)

(this is a follow up of a previous post)

"Another level"

But is this support so easy to obtain? The singer was

widely criticized by Democrats for not openly supporting Hillary Clinton against Donald Trump in 2016.

After years of caution, the singer came out of the woods for the first time in 2018, sponsoring a Democrat in her home state of Tennessee.

In 2020, Taylor Swift officially announced her support for Joe Biden against President Donald Trump, accusing the Republican of having “fanned the flames of white supremacism and racism throughout (his) mandate”.

The exact impact this support had on the Democrat's victory is difficult to quantify.

But the artist has, since the last election, accessed a new status.

Taylor Swift “was popular in 2020, but her popularity (…) went to another level,” explains Matthew Harris, professor of political science at Park University.

The star is very popular among young women of voting age. Joe Biden is counting heavily on this electorate, which brought him to power in 2020, to get re-elected.

But the polls are not good for the Democrat among young people, particularly since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Many criticize his administration's too strong support for the Israeli ally.

United States: Taylor Swift, an essential asset for the 2024 presidential election? (I)

Pop superstar, youth idol, and soon-to-be campaign icon? The influence of singer Taylor Swift is at the heart of all the desires for the 2024 American presidential election.

The 34-year-old artist, personality of the year according to Time magazine, is at the top of his art, breaking absolutely all records.

One example among many: his “Eras Tour” exceeded the symbolic threshold of a billion dollars in revenue over 60 dates in 2023 – an amount never seen before in the history of music.

Hailing from the rural state of Tennessee, Taylor Swift began her journey in country music, a genre particularly beloved by conservatives.

According to a poll published Tuesday by the Marist Institute, the artist behind hits like "Shake It Off" and "Bad Blood" is credited with 70% favorable opinions among Americans.

A figure that Joe Biden, for whom she voted in 2020, can only dream of for himself: the Democrat's popularity rating, in decline since the start of his mandate, now stands at just under 40%. favorable opinions according to poll aggregator FiveThirtyEight.

Could Taylor Swift revive Joe Biden by calling to support him in 2024? The presidential candidate's campaign team is sure of it.

“Thank you for not telling us that we need a Taylor Swift strategy. We are following the file,” joked an executive from Biden’s team on Wednesday, sharing a job description for the campaign.

Taylor Swift and her fans

Above all, I like Taylor Swift because she seems to be the nicest star in the world with her fans. Last year, she sent some of them Christmas presents and monitored their social media accounts to observe their reactions (spoiler alert: they were good).

She defended Lucy, one of her admirers who was mocked and insulted because of her physique, in a video where she opened the package sent by her idol.

Taylor also featured some of her fans in the music video for Shake It Off. She speaks to them with great affection on her Twitter account, helps them when she can, meets them as soon as she can, interacts with them as much as possible. A Telegraph article lists ten monstrously cool things she did for her audience.

That's what I like so much about her, she doesn't act blasé: she assumes being happy with everything that happens to her, the awards she wins, the people who adore her music and her personality, she assumes to want to dance when music excites her, even if she dances “badly”… She tries to give back with all the enthusiasm in the world what she collects and damn, it's a pleasure to see.

I think we have so much to learn from Taylor Swift, in terms of trusting ourselves and others.

Be my Sistah, come, we'll laugh together, we'll make big meals and stupid selfies on Instagram, we'll respond to the annoying people on social media who annoy your fans and it will be good.

Inspiration: Taylor Swift Easter Baskets

For people having a Swiftie in the family, a perfect way  to add extra fun to the Easter holiday is creating a Taylor Swift Easter basket theme. From cozy slippers and fun fashion accessories to activity books, there’s something for fans of every age.

Our advice: Use this Taylor Swift Easter basket filler gift guide to inspire your shopping this spring.

Eras Tour Friendship Bracelets

This set of adorable stacking Eras Tour friendship bracelets showcases one design for all of Taylor Swift’s albums featured in her most recent concerts. Your little Swifties can show off their favorite eras or trade with friends. The stone beads and braided design stand up to frequent wear, and each bracelet stretches for a more comfortable fit. Each set comes with 11 bracelets, which are perfectly sized to fill plastic Easter eggs for your child’s basket.

Taylor Swift Photo Bookmarks

This is a second opportunity. Inspire your Swiftie’s love of reading with these Taylor Swift photo bookmarks. Images of the pop star add a fun look to each one, and long tassels make it easy to mark any spot in a favorite book. They come in a set of five, so they can be spread out in an Easter basket between eggs and other trinkets. Each bookmark measures 6 inches x 2 inches to fit perfectly in paperbacks or hardcover books, plus they’re cute enough to use as locker decorations. If you are gifting books for Easter, this set makes a perfect companion gift!

Taylor Swift will ejoy childhood on Easter

Taylor Swift may be about 34 years old, but she can also revert to childhood very quickly.

NEXT Sunday, March 31, she probably will be with her boyfriend Travis Kelce or will celebrate Easter Easter but with her family. The opportunity for the singer of 'Shake It Off' and 'Blank Space' to remember a big egg hunt and descovering colors

Searching for chocolate eggs in the garden, is an important tradition for many families.

Crazy egg hunt for Taylor Swift

Even at 34, the star of Shake It Off and Blank Space wouldn't miss this moment with his loved ones for anything. And when she looks for the eggs, the pretty blonde doesn't do things by halves.

For sure, she will run and look in all directions to collect as many chocolate eggs as possible but above all to beat her brother, Austin, 32 years old.  Many times, Taylor Swift even grabs the younger brother to destabilize him.

To believe that the pop star has really enjoy to return to childhood!

“Is this a joke!?” : big hiccup for Taylor Swift concerts in Paris

On May 9, Taylor Swift will launch the European part of her record-breaking tour "The Eras Tour".

Cocorico, it is at Paris La Défense Arena that the pop superstar will set down for four exceptional concerts until May 12. A real event since it is his first real show in France, excluding special events, since a Zénith in 2011! The wait is high since these will also be his first dates after the release of his new album "The Tortured Poets Department", expected on April 19. And fans are all asking the question: will Taylor Swift add a part dedicated to this new record to this concert which already lasts 3 hours 20 minutes? It is on the evening of May 9 that the 40,000 precious ticket holders will discover it.

“Pecress!!!”

The arrival of Taylor Swift in France is such an event that it generates some bad news. Starting with the price of hotels, which explodes in every city it passes through. In Lyon, where she will give two concerts at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon on June 2 and 3, hotel professionals have increased the price of a night by 54%! In Paris, another disappointment awaits the Parisian public. Indeed, a branch of the RER A will be interrupted from May 8 to 12, at the exact moment when Taylor Swift's four concerts take place at Paris La Défense Arena. The Chatou-Croissy station will be completely closed and spectators wishing to go to the concert via Saint-Germain-en-Laye or Le Vésinet, or return home, will not be able to do so since the RER A terminus will be at Rueil- Bad house. You will have to take a special substitute bus or walk!

And this interruption annoys some fans, who wonder how they will be able to get to Paris La Défense Arena or even return home. “It’s a joke”, “Oh no!! It’s right on my RER line!!! », “The choice of the date of the work... PECRESS!!! » some people get angry on X / Twitter while others point out that the dates of the work are determined well in advance. This case recalls the interruption of the RER B on the weekends of the concerts which took place at the Stade de France in the summer of 2022. If the shows of Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers or Indochine were maintained, Soprano had had to postpone his to the summer of 2023, given the impossibility for spectators to come and leave the stadium with the RER B, then closed for work.

The Port of Baltimore is like the Taylor Swift of U.S. auto ports

If we think deeper, the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore is going to impact in that space of America more than just traffic. Statistics say that Baltimore’s port supports more than 150,000 jobs - 15,000 of them through direct employment. Its contribution to the economy each day means millions of dollars

Tinglong Dai, a business professor at Johns Hopkins University, simply explains the port’s importance in pop culture terms: “The Port of Baltimore is like the Taylor Swift of U.S. auto ports.

“I do expect the Port of Baltimore to be able to recover relatively quickly,” Dai said. “I don't see the Port of Baltimore being replaced anytime soon. And it's if anything, it has been one of the rare success stories in the past few years. We have seen a lot of upgrades and a lot of improvements on the investments from the federal government, from the state of Maryland.”

If the Port of Baltimore port could be reopened in less than a year, Baltimore’s Key Bridge rebuild, including  the effects on transportation and the timeframe, could take a decade.

Commenting the whole frame, professor Tinglong Dai's final conclusion is also related to Taylor Swift

Much like Swift, he said that when the port’s not working, economies feel it.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce: the exorbitant price of their romantic vacation

After being spotted kissing in the water while on vacation, Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce reportedly ended up at a luxury hotel in the Bahamas that reportedly costs $15,000 a night.

Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce's luxury hotel in the Bahamas reportedly costs $15,000 per night.

The singer and footballer have been dating since last summer and were spotted this week kissing in the waters of Harbor Island, where they are staying at Rosalita House while they take a break from their busy schedules .

It is a sumptuous oceanside mansion where Kylie Jenner has already stayed in 2020 and which can accommodate a dozen people in six bedrooms. It is also equipped with a swimming pool, terraces, gardens and a gym.

His favorite song is "Shake It Off" (2014), because it makes him feel better.

“It doesn’t matter if you face a lot of uncertainty, you just have to be who you are and be happy,” says Renzo Gonzales, originally from the Philippines and working on an oil tanker.

Taylor Swift became her role model because "you don't have to be like what everyone tells you to be, you can be yourself."

His favorite song: “Daylight” (2019) because it taught him that “love can be a rainbow”.

Taylor Swift, "she's the free girls' therapist" (I)

Nearly 300,000 fans flocked to Singapore to attend the six sold-out concerts given by American singer Taylor Swift until Saturday in the city-state, the only ones in Southeast Asia.

On the eve of the final concert, AFP gave the floor to six “Swifties”. These die-hard fans of the pop star explain what the icon - whose words could count in November's presidential election - means to them.

"Therapist"

Searle Lira, 33, became a fan of Taylor Swift in high school with the song "Teardrops on My Guitar" (2006).

It helped her overcome her own heartbreak.

“I have the impression that she’s the girls’ free therapist,” notes this independent journalist from the Philippines.

“For every thing girls go through, you can find a Taylor Swift song to relate to.”

“Love me as you should”

Lauren Fang, 23, first listened to Taylor Swift while she was in the hospital for treatment for lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease.

A human resources specialist in Taiwan, she was 18 at the time and says her idol's songs helped her recover.

His favorite song? “Back to December” (2010), which evokes the regrets of having left someone.

She transformed the words to relate them to herself: “If I can live again, I swear that I will love myself as I should”.

“The song taught me that if I can rebuild my life, I will live my own life correctly,” she adds.

“Humble and kind”

Sarah Lui, 21, discovered Taylor Swift in elementary school and has never stopped listening to her since then.

“I will always be a Swiftie even if I become a lawyer,” maintains the young woman, who is completing a cycle in criminology in Hong Kong and is going to study law.

What she admires most about the singer is her “kindness”.

"She's been so good to her team, to her fans and to everyone. She's humble and kind, that's how everyone should be," she explains.

"She's a superstar, but she's never been arrogant because of her fame. She uses her fame for good."

Taylor Swift concerts: Take care of scammers (II)

In Australia and Canada, authorities have called for vigilance. At least 273 people have been victims of scammers in Australia, while in Canada, victims were approached on Facebook Marketplace, only to have their accounts blocked by the scammers.

Sponsored scams on Instagram

Other scammers try another, less sophisticated approach. On Instagram, it only took us a few clicks to let the algorithm think we were interested in buying concert tickets. Quickly, we were targeted by advertisements proclaiming that Ticketmaster was selling tickets at knockdown prices, at 1.95 euros or 2 euros per ticket, when official tickets were sold for between 70 and 245 euros. For VIP packs, prices soar up to 845 euros, according to our colleagues at PureCharts.

These advertisements referred to a false lottery aimed at obtaining the personal contact details of Internet users. A search in the Meta ad library shows that around thirty targeted advertisements were broadcast over two weeks on Instagram and Facebook.

These advertisements do not come from Ticketmaster. They also contravene Meta's rules, explains a representative of the American giant, without explaining to us how they were able to slip through the cracks of moderation.

Buying on resale sites, a risky strategy

To get tickets, other fans go through well-established resale sites, where prices skyrocket, while in France, the law prohibits the resale of a ticket at a price higher than the original price. 'purchase. The Stubhub site is particularly popular with Swifties. If you are refused access to the concert, it guarantees either to find you another place at the time of the concert, or to reimburse you. A good option if you are given a counterfeit note? Please note, you must take the time to read the reimbursement conditions. These stipulate that you must provide proof that you have been refused access to the performance hall.

Furthermore, Ticketmaster tells us that “the resale of a ticket through unauthorized points of sale renders it invalid and may result in refusal of entry”. So at your own risk.

So how can you be sure you're buying a valid ticket? In Australia, the authorities responsible for the fight against fraud advise only going through official resellers. If you come into contact with a seller through social networks, it is possible that the scammer has taken possession of an authentic account, making the buyer believe that he is chatting with a trusted person, warn these same authorities.

As for the many, many Swifties who were unable to get a place, they will be able to do a catch-up session while watching the concert at home. An extended version of The Eras Tour will be available from March 15 on Disney+. And, no, this time it's not a hoax.

Taylor Swift concerts: Take care of scammers (I)

TESTIMONIALS  Scammers are selling fake tickets for Taylor Swift's concerts in May and June in Paris and Lyon, taking advantage of the high demand for this sold-out tour. “20 Minutes” collected testimonies from victims

She sent me all the proof, she was super nice, she spoke to me like I was a friend. » Amélie had no reason to be suspicious of this young woman who offered her two tickets to see Taylor Swift in concert in Paris. However, this stranger will succeed in extracting 350 euros from him with a particularly sophisticated scam.

“I made a message on Twitter to say that I was looking for tickets for the Eras Tour, Amélie tells. A girl contacted me, we talked a lot about how we were going to proceed. » Because to avoid fraud – tempting for scammers because thousands of people were unable to get a place – Ticketmaster, the only operator authorized to sell tickets for this record-breaking tour, has deployed great resources. Tickets are electronic, nominative and linked to a Ticketmaster account. Moreover, they have still not been sent to their lucky recipients, who will only receive them a few days before the six dates planned in France, from May 9 to 12 at Paris La Défense Arena and June 2 and 3 at Groupama Stadium in Lyon.

“Everything was very clean”

So, the Swifties, Taylor Swift fans, got organized. Those who want to resell their place give access to their Ticketmaster account, so that the buyer can retrieve the proof of purchase and then the place. Well informed, the scammer Amélie was the victim of made her believe that she was giving him access to her account. “She knew very well that the PDF places were not yet published and that she had to give me her account,” remembers Amélie. I asked for a lot of proof: she sent me the purchase confirmation, the email…” Cautiously, the young woman confides that she “already purchased on Ticketmaster. So I know what it looks like. » The crook “actually had everything!” », says Amélie, who wonders: “Did she take them from someone else? Did she really have places and wanted to scam? In any case, everything was very clean. »

Gaining confidence, Amélie makes two payments to the young woman, via her Paylib account and that of her boyfriend. Total amount: 350 euros.

“And then she said to me: “Thank you, so cool, don’t worry, I’m not going to scam you, I’ll send you proof of payment.”

Taylor Swift rules on the football arena

We all know that not long ago Taylor Swift (34 years old) was crowned the queen of Singapore

As success calls another, the superstar of pop music will soon be competing with one of the world's great football teams: Real Madrid. Thus, Taylor will hold a concert at the "Santiago Bernabeu" on May 30. Faced with this challenge, the Madrid club asked the Spanish federation to postpone the match of the last stage, which was to be played against Betis Sevilla, at home on May 26.

The reason: Real Madrid officials claim they need more time to prepare the stadium to welcome the artist and prepare the stage and want additional time to prepare her concert

Consequently, Real Madrid submitted a request to the federation to move their last game of the season. Moreover, Real is trying to find an additional date to host a second concert by the American, given the huge interest.

Acceptance of the request could complicate the situation in La Liga, since it is possible that both teams play for high stakes in the last stage.

The match Real Madrid vs Betis could decide the title and a place in European competitions.

According to the calendar, for reasons of sporting fairness, all matches in the final stage should be played on May 26, from the same time, 18:30. A possible solution advanced by those from The Athletic could be the advance of the other games that matter for the fight for the title and the one for the European cups.

Taylor Swift, concerts in major European cities

The pop sensation, girlfriend of NFL star Travis Kelce, will perform concerts in several European cities this summer, including Paris, Stockholm, Lisbon, Liverpool, London and Amsterdam.

The artiste's presence is expected to generate huge revenue in the cities where she will perform, as happened during her recently concluded multi-billion tour in Asia.

Taylor Swift for the fourth time number 1 of world sales chart

The American singer Taylor Swift has reached the top of the global sales chart in 2023, for the fourth time since the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the international body of the music industry, has awarded this distinction, AFP writes, News.ro reports.

It is the 11th time that this ranking is established "on the basis of the worldwide sales of an artist or group in the last year, in all formats (streaming, downloads and physical media) and on its entire repertoire", explained on Wednesday the organization that represents recorded music industry worldwide.

The 2023 award follows those from 2014, 2019 and 2022. IFPI hails "an exceptional year in which the artist took three albums (…) to the top of the charts", respectively "Midnights" and the self-recorded versions of the albums "Speak Now" and "1989" .

"With her record-breaking Eras Tour, she has brought her entire repertoire back into the spotlight on streaming platforms around the world," the organization continues. This phenomenon was illustrated by the reappearance of the song 'Cruel summer', originally released in 2019, which returned to number 1 in the charts four years later', IFPI continues.

K-Pop stars Seventeen and Stray Kids took second and third place, "following a record-breaking year for Korean artists." Four K-Pop groups also feature in the top 10, with Tomorrow X Together at number seven and NewJeans at number eight.

It must also be added that Taylor Swift (38 years old) once again made pop music history at the beginning of this month, winning her fourth Grammy award for the prestigious title of best album.
